So what’s the latest craze in fitness?
It’s not the Hula-hoop, pole dancing, or boot camps. No.
It’s getting back to basics.
Remember the good old days when all you needed to get fit was some workout clothes, a pair of sneakers and the outdoors? Well, many people are doing just that when it comes to their exercise routines.
Jogging … jumping jacks … push ups … sprints. All great exercises that will get your heart and body in tip top shape. And the best part? It doesn’t cost you a fancy new outfit or an expensive annual membership. And you can do it anywhere.
Folks are scaling back to functional fitness that fits into their every day lives. Like going for a run with a buddy, taking a swim, or dropping to the ground for some push ups. The basics are back and can really get you into shape.
Don’t have money for an expensive trainer to push you along? No problem. Studies show that working out with a buddy (even a furry one with paws) with help keep you on track. Set up scheduled workouts a minimum of three times per week and make a pact regarding cancellations. Your buddy will keep you motivated and vice versa.
Incorporate some mind/body workouts to keep things fresh. For example, start with 10 minutes of yoga, 40 minutes of running or biking, and then cooling down (and refocusing) with another 10 minutes of yoga. Try different combinations to keep it fresh. (Combine yoga and pilates for a toning of the body and mind) Be creative and have fun.
When you strip away all of the fancy gear, the extraordinary classes, and the expensive trainers, all you really want is to exercise…. which really is as simple as stepping outside your door.
